February 5, 2014: Soccer star David Beckham had to be rescued by police after he was mobbed by thousands of screaming fans in the US. Goldenballs Becks turned up in Miami, Florida, at a meet-and-greet with local teenage footie players to publicise his multi million dollar plans to launch his very own football team in the States. But the second the soccer legend stepped out off his limo at the Kendall Soccer Park in Miami, he found himself at the centre of a stampede as hoardes of cheering children and their parents battled to get near to the former England ace. Beckham tried to shake hands and have pictures taken with the delighted mob, but instead he was carried along by the crowds as his worried security team looked on helpless. Eventually local cops called in backup and had had to push the crowds back to protect Beckham until he could safely return to his car. The former Man United and LA Galaxy star was meant to meet local youngsters and pose with them as well as have a kick-about but the publicity stunt was soon abandoned. One onlooker said: ''It was a crazy mob scene that just got way out of control. ''The kids went wild and even the parents were jumping up and down trying to touch Beckham. It was like the Messiah had arrived in Miami.'' The 38-year-old has been gathering financial backing so he can launch the MLS soccer franchise in Miami within the next two years. It is thought to involve the building of a new football stadium in Miami and Beckham has already said he wants Miami to ''The People's Football Club.''Mandatory Credit:Michele Eve Sandberg/INFphoto.com Ref: infusmi-25|sp| LaPresseOnly Italy
