MISSION HILLS (KTLA) — The LAPD has a new tool to help cut down on crime in one valley neighborhood: a $360,000 high-tech surveillance camera system.

Police say the cameras are so powerful, they can zoom in on pedestrians and license plates up to two blocks away.

Nine cameras were installed in Mission Hills — a high crime area in the North Hills/Panorama City area — and police say the cameras have already led to the arrest of a gang-related graffiti suspect.
