For newlywed couples, a wedding day usually represents a milestone transition into wedded bliss. And like most brides, Samar Salman al-Khayal looked the part of a storybook princess, donning a flowing white dress and carrying a fragrant bouquet as she went forward to meet her groom.

Only for Khayal, the transition will be the even more significant. As Haaretz is reporting, the 26-year-old Syrian bride had to cross the Syrian-Israeli checkpoint at al-Quneitra before she could marry her fiance Nabih Farhat, an Israeli Druze who lives in the Golan Heights.
