The American experiment is reaching its breaking point as polar opposites Chris Christie and Princeton University duke it out over taxes. Rupert Murdoch is catching flak abroad for spying on public figures through wiretapping (Rupert could have saved himself some trouble and just bought them iPhones). And we’re unclear whether Robert Gates’ statement that the U.S. still won’t put “boots on the ground” in Libya refers to a fashion industry charity consortium or U.S. military personnel. God we hope it’s the second one. This is HUFFPOST HILL for Thursday, April 21st, 2011:

@mmcauliff: Rumor circulating widely that John Ensign will quit, among Dems & GOP. Unconfirmed, but 1 says 2day (before Good Friday), another 2moro

OBAMA ACTIVATES ROBOT ARMY IN LIBYA – The president has green-lit the use of predator drones to provide cover and improve the precision of lower-level attacks on Libyan targets. The first mission was launched today but had to be turned back due to inclement weather conditions. “President Obama has said that where we have some unique capabilities, he is willing to use those,” Defense Secretary Robert Gates said at a press conference today with military leaders. “And in fact he has approved the use of armed Predators.” Gates also reiterated the administration’s policy not to put “boots on the ground” in Libya. Between this and the use of drones in pre-existing campaigns, the U.S.’s robot troops are stretched pretty thin. God, we hope there isn’t a robot draft. [AP/HuffPost]
