The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) issues their committee opinion on home birth this past week. They acknowledge that the “absolute risks of home births is low” but says that they are still much riskier than hospital births.  They do go on to say that while they believe hospitals and birth centers are the safest place for births, that women who choose home birth should be offered standard components of prenatal care (GBS screening, HIV screening, genetic screening, etc.). ACOG says that home birth should not be considered is there are twins, a history of previous c-section or a breech baby.
